1/14/2020

Does a new year mean a new you? If you can change something about yourself, what would it be? Most people indicate they would like to change their financial situation. Unfortunately, those same people wanted to change that very thing this time last year. They only way to make a difference in your financial situation is to take steps towards changing the way you have dealt with your finances thus far.

To change your financial situation, here are 3 steps to creating a new you for the new year:

Decide to commit to changing your financial situation.
You must make a commitment to making a change in your financial situation. This involves changing how you think and behave regarding financial decisions. Maintaining the same mindset and handling your finances the same way will only keep you in the same financial situation. If you commit to making a change, you willingly can complete the remaining necessary steps to creating a new you.

Complete an assessment of your current financial situation.
Having clarity of where you currently stand, good or bad and bad or worst, is the only way to see how much work needs to be completed to change the situation. Think of this as a doctor taking an x-ray before she take steps to repair a broken bone. The doctor may know there is a broken bone, but she may not know the exact location of the break as well as the best plan of action to heal the break, such as if surgery is needed or if a cast is sufficient. If you have a clear awareness of where you stand, you will be able to move to the next step towards creating a new you.

Create a lifestyle plan that puts you on the path to improve your financial situation.
Now that the assessment is complete, you can become the doctor of your financial situation. You can now properly prepare the best plan of action to change the direction of where your finances are pointed. Having a plan and committing to your plan, helps you to change your behavior towards your finances. If you are committed, you will refrain from straying away from the established plan and eliminate behaviors such as shopping impulsively or purchasing unnecessarily. Your lifestyle plan is the GPS to changing your financial situation. If you follow the directions (plan), you will successfully get to your financial destination.

Do not let this year have the same financial results as last year. Take action today by initiating these three steps. You will be amazed with the new you that is created in the year 2020. If you need help getting started, please call Financially Mindful at 704-626-7484 for help.
